Oxapampa

Oxapampa- Emerald City.

Just over 385 kilometers from Lima, the pleasant city of Oxapampa is located in the central Peruvian jungle, in the Pasco region.

Founded on August 30, 1891 by German and Tyrolean (Austrian) settlers, it has become over time a wonderful example of cultural integration and thriving sustainable development in harmony with nature. The mixture of German, Austrian and Peruvian customs and traditions of the Yánesha, Shipibo and Ashaninka ethnic groups, as well as migrants from other regions of the country, is evident.

Before the colonization of Oxapampa, by the hand of Austro-Germans, the territory was inhabited by the Yánesha ethnic group, whose culture, in the region, is currently protected, thanks to the creation of the Oxapampa-Asháninka Biosphere Reserve -Yánesha, a beautiful low mountain range covered with native forests.
