If you are looking for a captivating place in the Arequipa area (150 km north of the city), the Pillones Falls and the Imata Forest are a fantastic option. From the town of Imata, a walk of approximately 1 hour begins until you reach the enchanted stone forest, with its strange architecture composed of stone columns. Once you have crossed these curious rock formations, and after a descent to the river, you will reach the wonderful Pillones waterfall, that creates an uncontrollable joy with the freshness of its water.
Both the Falls and the Stone Forest are located about 4,600 meters above sea level and within walking distance between each other. Among the fauna that can be observed will be the vizcachas, the Andean swallows, the mountain ducks and the huallatas.
