KUELAP

The Kuelap Fortress, built on top of the mountain called Cerro Barreta, at 3,000 meters above sea level, is the most important archaeological site in the northern Peruvian mountainous jungle. The pre-Inca ruins of Kuélap have been called “the Machu Picchu of the north”. However, Kuélap has its own charm as one of the most representative archaeological sites of the Chachapoyas culture, in the Peruvian Amazon.

The platform extends for almost 600 meters and its perimeter is a wall that at some points reaches 19 meters high.
